Title for talk: The Future for Accelerators: Hybrid Computing
Short Abstract:
A new generation of FPGA accelerators have now become available on the market.
Running the Mitrion Virtual Processor for software programmability, these new FPGA
modules are mounted directly in CPU sockets. This gives direct access to system memory
without the data-transfers that have previously plagued accelerator cards on the PCIe-bus.
Since the FPGA is mounted in a CPU socket, it has equally direct access to system memory
as traditional CPUs, enabling data access without any need to first copy data to an accelerator
card. These cards permit a whole new level of system integration for FPGA accelerators, bringing
the world an important step closer to tightly integrated Hybrid computing.

Mitrionics participated in the first serie of twelve monthly HPC webinars at the
Acceleration Academy by XtremeData Technologies. This seminar was focused on
the technology advantages of In-Socket Accelerator-based hybrid computing
systems and on how to design a high-level language with working examples.
